The Community Foundation for Student Excellence began in 2003 through a local grassroots effort led by parents, educators and volunteers committed to assisting students within the Sauvie Island, Scappoose and Warren communities. “State funding for Oregon schools simply isn’t sufficient for the education we believe our children deserve,” says founding member and long-time Scappoose School Board member Candy Cole. “We started this Foundation to provide supplemental funds that we hope will make a noticeable difference in the classroom and the lives of students.” FUND-RAISER ACTIVITIESThe Foundation looks forward to working with the community to host a variety of events that will raise funds for students. Some fund-raisers will coordinate with already-established events in the community and new ones will be formed to bring the community closer together while benefiting the most important resource we have: OUR KIDS! Where Funds GoAll funds will be distributed according to the adopted bylaws and policies of the Foundation, which is comprised of a Board of Directors from Sauvie Island, Scappoose, Warren and surrounding communities. The Board is responsible for determining the amount of funding to be distributed and the amount needed to maintain the Foundation. Directors do not receive salaries for their services. The Foundation exists solely for charitable educational purposes. Committees will be formed to plan activities, explore new ideas and discuss ways to acquire and disburse funds generated by the Foundation. Here is what we have purchased for the Scappoose School District so far:
