Community Foundation For Student Excellence
PO Box 657
Scappoose, OR 97056
The Community Foundation For Student Excellence (CFFSE) has been functioning within the Scappoose School District now for over six years as a 501c3 non-profit organization. The CFFSE Business Plan is to fundraise to provide supplemental funds for educational materials, which so far has focused on textbooks and technology.
The fundraising activities to date have been in three general areas: direct sales at events; local business sponsorships; and grants from corporations which have local community involvement such as Fred Meyer, U.S. Bank, and Walmart.
-
The events, such as the CFFSE Cruise-In and the Sauerkraut Festival, provide some income They serve more as a way to keep CFFSE in the public eye. These events are exhausting for the number of workers we generally have available.
-
Business sponsorships and partnerships have been adversely affected by the economy and their support of CFFSE has reduced gradually over the last few years.
-
Outside grants have been growing because of the ability to target grant providers that like seeing their funds used for specific stated goals. Grant writing is a skill that takes time from dedicated volunteers, and we need to expand the pool of resources with this knowledge.
The CFFSE Board is reviewing our efforts and working toward a goal of more effective use of our time and energy. Because we face the classic problem of myopically focusing our energies on continuing to do what has worked in the past, we would like to obtain other views and ideas. To that end, we would like to invite input from a larger group of people who have demonstrated an interest in support for the educational efforts within Scappoose Schools, from Sauvie Island to Warren.
That is where you come in. We would really like to hear what you think a “foundation” that supports Scappoose Schools could do to be more effective in achieving the goal of providing supplemental funding for educational materials.
We are allocating extra time at the next CFFSE board meeting for this topic. It is scheduled for Wednesday, February 17th starting at 6:30 PM in the Scappoose School District Administration Building at 33589 SE High School Way. It would be fantastic if you would attend in person to participate in discussion, but letters or emailed comments would be appreciated as well. Please send feedback to me at the address below, or to any of the other Directors.
Thank you for your support of Scappoose Schools!
